Grand Rapids Griffins Sports— Grand Rapids is alive with team sporting events all year long. In winter, hockey and arena football are the rage headlined by the Grand Rapids Griffins and the Grand Rapids Rampage. The commission is helping with the annual U.S. Airborne Gymnastics Invitational at Cornerstone University on March 1 and 2. The event attracts 350 competitors and their families from Michigan, Ohio, Illinois and Canada, and could inject some $185,000 into Grand Rapids hotels, restaurants, shops, and attractions. Winners will move to national competitions as Olympic hopefuls. ![]() Rockford-area YMCA at capacity, $2M expansion underwayFebruary 6, 2008 Originally built to serve 3,500 members, the Y currently serves 9,605 members.
