Popular summer Trolley Days help Uptown stay on economic track

Beginning Saturday, May 17, the trolleys are back on track to take summer shoppers throughout Uptown’s four business districts, marking a launch date that’s two month earlier than previous years for the popular Trolley Days events.

Every third Saturday from now through September 20 the Grand Rapids Trolley Co., LLC takes shoppers and diners on a free, and fun, cruise to shops and restaurants in the Eastown, East Fulton, East Hills and Wealthy Street business districts. Shoppers can hop on and off at eight stops along the way, with the first Trolley leaving the Fulton Street Farmer’s Market at 10 a.m and the last trolley returning at 3 p.m.

Uptown gallery hosts Grand Valley Artists’ competition to christen showroom

April 9, 2008

The gallery will celebrate its Grand Opening of the new showroom with an artist’s reception this Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. for the Grand Valley Artists (GVA) Spring 2008 Art Competition, a juried exhibition. Featured works—selected from oils, watercolors, and photography submitted by GVA members—will include the winners and honorable mentions of the GVA’s competition.

Coffee roaster spills the beans about new East Hills venue

$150K renovation transforms former Rockford American Legion

March 26, 2008

Most of the $150,000 for the renovation went to improving the exterior of the circa 1920s building: removing the outdated aluminum siding revealed seven window openings for three new retail storefronts, the entryways were leveled and aligned, the decorative block masonry repaired, and a boardwalk erected across the front to connect the retail spaces.
